Strong 2nd helps Timmins top Espanola

ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Timmins Rock used the strength of three second period goals as part of an eventual 5-2 victory over the Espanola Express Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Each side would score once in the back half of the opening frame with Mahingan Decontie connecting for the Rock at 14:50 before Lukas Lyszyk countered for Espanola less than four minutes later.

Timmins came out quickly to commence the middle session as Matt Capisciolto put the visitors back in front for good at the 51-second mark.

They then added two more later in the period thanks to Eamon Bollinger and Linden Spencer, who converted in rapid succession.

Action in the final frame saw the Express move to within two with three and a half minutes remaining as Cordell Boyko scored on the power play for his initial league goal.

However, Owen Shier answered that for the Rock 51 seconds later with his first NOJHL marker to help secure the road win and round out the scoring.

Bollinger and Josh Anderson added two assists each for the guests in the decision.

Tyler Masternak made 28 saves to win his third straight start while Eric Schneider faced 40 shots in a losing cause for Espanola.
