Robert Mazzuca re-instated as NOJHL commissioner

NOJHL announces return of Mazzuca as Commissioner

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Board of Governors confirmed Wednesday that it is very pleased to announce the return of Robert Mazzuca to his position as NOJHL Commissioner, effective immediately.

The appointment was affirmed in a unanimous vote of confidence during a recent conference call of the Board.

Scott Marshall, NOJHL Chairman of the Board and President of the Timmins Rock, offered his thoughts on the return of Mazzuca.

“At our annual general meeting in Sault Ste. Marie, it became very apparent to all parties that the league required an operational restructuring,” stated Marshall.

“Status quo was perpetuating unnecessary conflict and the inefficient allocation of resources,” added the NOJHL chairman.

“That formal restructuring has now taken place, and Robert has, thankfully, agreed to accept our offer of reinstatement based on the new business model, said Marshall.”

Terms of the contract are considered to be a private matter.

The NOJHL restructuring included the establishment of an Executive Committee comprised of the Chair and one representative from each division.

Jim Taylor (Kirkland Lake Gold Miners) was selected to represent the East and Todd Stencill (Elliot Lake Wildcats) the West.

“Essentially the Executive Committee will oversee the day-to-day business affairs of the league and submit policy recommendations to the Board of Governors for consideration,” the NOJHL Chairman surmised.

“The Commissioner will maintain absolute care and control of Hockey Operations in concert with his staff”, stated Marshall.

“This new division of roles and responsibilities should result in more efficient operations and alleviate concerns regarding who does what,” added the NOJHL Executive Committee Chairman.

The NOJHL’s 2015-16 campaign will commence with training camps next month and regular season action in the 12-team league getting underway Sept. 11.
