Kirkland Lake skates to road win at Espanola

ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got a pair of goals from Gunnar Wegleitner for a second straight game along with three assists from Kevin Ford to help them skate to a 6-1 victory over the Espanola Express Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Espanola collected the lone marker in the opening frame as Aaron Roschinsky scored on a power play six and a half minutes into the contest.

Kirkland Lake drew level early in the middle stanza as Wegleitner notched his first of the day 36 seconds into the session.

Alex Storjohann struck shorthanded for the Gold Miners at 9:08 to provide the eventual game-winner.

The visitors kept coming and added another before the second was complete thanks to a Max Cavallini effort.

It was more Kirkland Lake in the third as they put the game away by tacking on three more tallies to secure the decision.

Tyler Fyfe’s 18th of the season made it 4-1 in the first minute of the stanza while Matthew Brassard supplied his 11th overall at 3:50.

Wegleitner would then finish things off with his second of the contest during a man advantage opportunity with 5:40 remaining.

Ridge Gerads made 28 saves to pick up the win for the Gold Miners.

Logan Sawka started in net for the Express and suffered the loss allowing five on 30 attempts while Mitchell Jacobson stopped nine of 10 in just over 16 minutes of relief.
