Espanola doubles up Blind River 4-2

ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Espanola Express got the game-winning goal and an assist from Nate Viberg to help them double up the visiting  Blind River Beavers 4-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Blind River began the scoring 9:16 into the contest on a Zak Lambrecht marker only to see Espanola’s Riley Nadeau come right back with the equalizer just eight seconds later.

An Express power play allowed them to go in front a couple shifts later compliments of a Riley Tilot man advantage effort.

Down a skater midway through the contest Viberg struck shorthanded for the eventual difference maker to make it 3-1 Espanola while Aaron Roschinsky supplied some insurance with an even strength tally at 12:44 of the second to spell the end of Beavers’ starter Myles Hektor’s night in favour of Wes Werner.

Blind River got one back early in the third thanks to Dylan McMahon, but the Express held on from there to secure the win.

Express goaltender Kyla Alaverdy made 37 saves to register his first NOJHL victory.

Hektor suffered the loss allowing the four against on 21 stops while Werner handled all 13 attempts he faced in relief.
