Eagles soar over Express

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Chris Murphy scored three times and assisted on two others while Rhett Rampinelli and Landon Hubbard had four points apiece to lead the Soo Eagles to an impressive 12-3 triumph over the Espanola Express Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Pullar Stadium.

Espanola did get off to a good start in the contest notching the night’s opening marker 68 seconds in on a MacKenzie Aiken effort.

Sault Ste. Marie answered that however with three of their own from Rampinelli, Jake Saxton and Murphy to go up 3-1 after one.

The offense continued in the middle stanza as the Eagles outscored the Express 7-2 in the session.

The Soo broke it open in that second period with Murphy and Jacob Palmerio scoring twice while Hubbard, Bradley Hofelich and Jake Cimarusti supplied singles.

Riley Smith and Nate Viberg added power play efforts for Espanola in the frame.

Palmerio added another in the third to complete a hat trick and Rampinelli registered his fourth point of the night to finish off the romp.

Eight different Soo skaters had multiple-point evenings for the winners.

Kade Phipps started for the Eagles and picked up the victory playing two periods saving 12 of 15 while Justyn Gillis handled all 10 attempts he saw in 20 minutes of relief.

Kyle Alaverdy and Mitchell Jacobson both saw action in a losing cause for Espanola as the duo 50 shots fired their way in defeat.
