Chenier scores 3, adds assist, as Canadians derail Express

ESPANOLA, Ont. – Bradley Chenier had a hat trick and added an assist to help the Rayside-Balfour Canadians derail the Espanola Express 7-2 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Rayside-Balfour struck quickly in this one grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play thanks to goals by Matt Neault, Makenzie MacMillan and Chenier’s first, which turned out to be the game-winner.

The Espanola power play got them one back 7:09 into the second courtesy of Dominik Laverge.

A Keenan Kennedy man advantage effort with 2:42 remaining in the middle session brought the Express even closer, but Joel Lemay countered for the guests just 15 seconds later to make it a 4-2 game.

The Canadians weren’t done there either as Brody Brunet added another mere moments later.

Chenier then helped put the game away in the third as he tacked on two more to finish things off.

Ryan Erickson supplied three assists for Rayside-Balfour while Tristan Simm and Otis Goldman had two helpers each.

Cameron Anklewich helped set-up both goals for the home side.

Jessie Morin made 41 saves to earn the win for the Canadians.

Kevin Labelle started for Espanola and suffered the loss allowing six against on 29 shots while Aaron Callan stopped four of five in 18 and a half minutes of relief.
