Canadians edge Express 3-2

ESPANOLA, Ont. – A Mackenzie MacMillan marker five and a half minutes into the third period was the game-winner as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians got past the Espanola Express 3-2 Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Regional Recreation Centre.

The power play allowed Espanola to notch the lone tally of the first period when Patrick Smith picked up his third goal of the season 7:36 into the contest.

Rayside-Balfour drew level 75 seconds into the middle stanza when Matthew Neault connected on a Canadians man advantage opportunity.

Midway through the match-up the visitors took their first lead courtesy of Otis Goldman’s 16th since joining the club 17 game’s ago.

The Express battled back to knot the affair at 2-2 before the second was complete when Joel Grandbois converted with his team up a man at 14:12.

However in the third, MacMillan notched the difference maker as Rayside-Balfour skated to the road victory.

MacKenzie Savard was tested 40 times in picking up the win for the Canadians while Kevin Labelle made 29 stops in defeat for Espanola.
