Espanola, On.

The Espanola Express are pleased to announce the 3rd Express player to commit to NCAA D-III this season.

Journeyman defender Riley Tilot has confirmed his commitment to play NCAA D-III hockey at Bethel University in Arden Hills Minnesota for the upcoming 2017-2018 season.

The veteran 96 birth year defenceman quickly became a top rearguard for the Express and was recognized by all the NOJHL teams as one of the top defenders in the league.  Tilot played 110 games for the Express and ammassed 10 goals and 28 assists over the past two seasons.

“I can’t thank my family, the fans, my amazing billets and town of Espanola enough for all of their great support over the last two years,” commented Tilot.

“I would also like to thank the coaches and staff for taking me in and pushing me to be the best player I could be. Their commitment to developing me as a player and person on and off the ice was second to none. Thanks to them I’m ready to continue my hockey and educational career at Bethel University where I will get to study athletic training,” added Tilot.

Tilot was an exceptional player for the Express both on and off the ice. He gave 100% at all times, whether it was in a game or in practice and always led by example off the ice. Riley could always be counted on to help out wherever needed in the community and always had a positive contribution to the dressing room and with his teammates.

“The Royals are getting a workhorse in Tilot, who is an amazing young man. I am quite frankly proud to have known Riley and call him an alumni of the Express,” boasted Express GM Chad Clarke.

“Riley will be an incredible addition to the Royals lineup. I have absolutely no doubt he will have great success with his future educational and scholastic endeavors at Bethel University and in life for that matter,” added Clarke

When asked about his new opportunity to advance to the next level in his career, Tilot had this to say.

“Getting the opportunity to pursue my goal as a collegiate hockey player while attending an amazing school is something I could only dream about and now I get to make it a reality. Having the chance to bring my defensive skill set to the NCAA Division III level is an honor and I am looking forward to the challenge. Thank you again to everyone involved with the Espanola Express organization for allowing me to take the next big step in my life!”
