NHL Star Tom McCarthy to coach Espanola Express

Legendary junior coach and NHL All-Star Tom McCarthy will be returning to Espanola as head coach of the Espanola Express. Tom had a very lucrative career in the NHL playing for the Minnesota North Stars and the Boston Bruins. Tom’s NHL career lasted over 9 years as he amassed 460 regular season games and 68 playoff games. Tom scored 399 points in his 460 games ranking him umongst the elite scores that played the game. Before Tom made it to the NHL he was drafted #1 ahead of Wayne Gretzky who was drafted #2 in the OHL entry draft. Tom also was first round draft pick in the NHL by the Minnesota North Stars going tenth overall. Tom learned from the best players and coaches in the world in his tenor in the NHL and has had a very successful career passing that knowledge onto young junior hockey minds in his 15 year career as a junior hockey coach. “It is an incredible to have a coach of Tom’s stature coaching here in Espanola, he is truly the best at what he does and his track record of producing championship driven teams year after year will be a huge asset to the organization and to the Express players as they look to develop their careers”, stated GM Chad Clarke.

Coach Tom will not only be returning as head coach, but as a co-owner as well alongside co-coach Jason Rapcewicz and GM Chad Clarke.
