Espanola’s Scott stones Rock to post club’s 1st win

SUDBURY, Ont. – Espanola Express goaltender Adam Scott turned in an impressive 54-save performance to lead his squad to their first win of the season, a 4-1 decision over the Timmins Rock Wednesday at the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase in Sudbury.

Despite getting outshot 14-4 in the first period, Scott stood tall in the Espanola net while teammates Joel Grandbois and Connor Tessier staked their side to the lead.

Cole Csorbay made it 3-0 at 12:44 of the second, with that effort seeing Timmins opt to replace starter Brendan Bishop in favour of Eric Jackson, who went the rest of the way.

The Rock got one back midway through the final frame as a Jared Hester power play blast eluded Scott through the screen.

Timmins continued to press but could not solve Scott the rest of the way and he finished with 24 stops in the period to help Espanola secure their initial triumph of the campaign.

Isaac Tkachuk iced it with a late empty netter and also picked up two assists for Espanola in the win.

Bishop suffered the loss with he and Jackson, in relief, seeing 19 shots against in total in defeat.
