Espanola earns 3-2 road win at Rayside-Balfour

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – The Espanola Express got three assists from Riley Nadeau and a tremendous 56-save effort from goaltender Logan Sawka to help them skate past the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 3-2 Saturday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Chelmsford Arena.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Espanola got on the board three and a half minutes into the middle stanza on a Jeb Paulsen goal.

The Canadians tied it at 5:46 on Tristan Simm’s 15th of the season only to see the Express go back on top courtesy of Patrick Smith’s man advantage effort at 8:15.

Espanola then got the eventual game-winner from Jason Bednarski midway through the session.

Rayside-Balfour moved back to within one 17 seconds into third period as Cayse Ton collected his sixth of the campaign, but Sawka shut the door the rest of the way to earn himself a well-deserved victory.

Cameron Lamour faced 24 shots in defeat for the Canadians.
