Blind River skates to road win at Espanola

ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers got a pair of goals from both Yianni Liarakos and Max Khull to help them skate to a 7-2 road victory over the Espanola Express Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Liarakos notched the lone marker of the first period as he connected on the power play seven and a half minutes into the contest.

He then added another via the man advantage 11 seconds into the middle stanza to put Blind River up by two.

Mark Khull added to the Beaver’s lead midway through the session before Jamison Westaby’s initial NOJHL tally put Espanola on the board in the final minute as he connected during an Express power play.

However Blind River stormed out in the third and struck four times in an 11-minute span to sure the win.

Anthony Bastianello and Anthony Pullicino upped the visitor’s margin to 5-2 before Max Khull tacked on two more to put his side in control of the match.

Patrick Smith’s sixth of the campaign with 4:56 remaining rounded out the day’s scoring for Espanola.

Liarakos, Dylan McMahon and Jordan Kreller chipped in with two assists each for the Beavers.

Aidan Doak was called upon to make 41 saves to earn the decision for Blind River.

Mitchell Jacobson faced 34 shots in defeat for the Express.
