Blind River doubles up Espanola 6-3

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers used four unanswered second period goals to help them double-up the Espanola Express 6-3 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair Saturday at the Blind River Community Centre.

The Beavers were quick to gain the upper hand in the contest as Steven Khull collected his ninth tally of the campaign 2:14 in.

Regrouping, Espanola came back to tie it at 11:06 thanks to Makenzie MacMillan as he notched his 12th goal of 2017-18.

Down a man entering the second period, Blind River struck shorthanded 53 seconds in thanks to Jack Sampson.

It was more Beavers from there as they tacked on three more before the session was complete to take control of the contest.

Jack Rudin made it 3-1 at 10:27 before Max Khull scored twice later in the period to put them up by four heading into the third.

MacMillan added his second of the evening for the Express at 15:30 only to see Khull match that a couple shifts later with his third of the night to put Blind River back up by four.

Connor Tessier added one final marker for Espanola at 17:34 to round out the scoring.

Ryan Mulligan dished out three assists for the Beavers as did Joel Grandbois for the Express.

Garret Boyonoski started for Blind River and picked up the win handling 20 of the 22 shots he faced while back-up netminder Connor Cyr saved five of seven in nine and a half minutes of relief.

Adam Scott faced 45 attempts in a season-ending defeat for Espanola.
